RB003 Pepper Seeds
The Enigmatic Superhot Born of Mystery
RB003 is one of the most brutal superhots ever unleashed. Originally reported as a hybrid from Australian grower and strongman Ross Barber, the cross allegedly involved a Yellow Reaper (fruit parent) and a Red Brainstrain (pollen parent). But like many legends in the superhot world, the genetics tell a more complicated story.
Growers never saw yellow fruit in the F₂ generations—only in the F₃ did peach phenotypes suddenly appear. That pattern doesn’t line up with any standard inheritance model for pepper color. Whether it was selection bias, hidden genetics, or a different cross altogether, one thing’s certain: whatever Ross came up with, it’s a top contender for the hottest pepper on Earth.

Jeff Hobbs reveals a new “Peach RB003” phenotype from his F₃ grow-out—a surprising pastel sibling to the legendary red lineage.
Pods from RB003 are monstrous—twisted, blistered, scorpion-shaped freaks with skin so wrinkled it looks melted. Inside, you’ll find capsaicin oil-soaked placentas that release heat instantly on contact. Beneath the fire, seasoned superhot eaters report fleeting hints of fruit and floral complexity, but those moments don’t last long before the burn consumes everything.
A Pepper Wrapped in Mystery
RB003’s genetic backstory remains debated. Some growers insist on the Yellow Reaper × Red Brainstrain lineage; others believe this pepper is just The Beast renamed, which would explain why the same colors are being found in the same filial generations of both peppers. It’s possible an unknown pollen donor may have slipped in during the cross. The sudden appearance of peach-colored fruit generations later suggests complex multi-locus interactions—perhaps involving PSY/C2, PRR2/C1, or ZEP loci—which means the reported parentage or segregation pattern may not fully align with established pepper color genetics. Possible explanations include selection bias, small sample sizes, or an inaccurate origin account.
In truth, this line’s stability and color expression are as volatile as its heat level. But that’s part of the allure: RB003 isn’t just a pepper—it’s a phenomenon.
